Family and friends lined up early along Middlebranch Avenue to grab a good spot and show their Plain pride at the Plain Township Bicentennial Parade. This was Plain Township’s first ever community parade, and what a parade it was! Led by the Boy and Girl Scouts, followed by local emergency vehicles from Plain and across the community, the GlenOak Marching Band, St. Thomas Aquinas Marching Band, local churches and organizations, cheerleaders, the Corvette Club, and of course, our proud Township Trustees, it was truly a sight to see!
The parade ended at Diamond Community park, where the Bicentennial Festival kicked off. Over 8,000 people attended throughout the day and evening. Many were shuttled by the SARTA Trolley, which was donated by SARTA to assist in this special event. It was an all day celebration with free children’s activities, Inflatables, a rock climbing wall, historic displays, and sponsor displays. At the Fire Department display, children put on their fire hats, picked up a real fire hose, and put out a pretend house fire!
DJ Mike Pfouts and Mix. 94.1 entertained the crowd with music during the festivities while vendors provided our favorite fair foods. The Ryan Humbert Band entertained the crowd on the main stage in the evening with music for all tastes. At dark, one of the largest fireworks displays in Stark County dazzled the crowd for 30 minutes. It was unlike any other fireworks display this year and wowed all who saw the show! It was truly a night to remember.
